Metal Work

child of medicine

Artist Statement

This piece reveals a part of me that would not ordinarily be visible.Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by doctors, nurses, and medicine. I have a complicated relationship with hospital rooms -- they have given me incredible opportunities but have caused both physical and emotional pain.

I often felt like I was a figure trapped inside of a glass box being subjected to various tests to advance science. My coping mechanism was to be mindlessly present in the moment, finding joy in small things, observing the changes on my person as they occurred.
